The beginning of a New Year often invites a list of New Year’s resolutions. Whether you love them or hate them, it’s undeniable that resolutions do have the potential to motivate an individual to cleanse from bad habits, and/or better themselves for 2016 and the years beyond. For some, this may be in the aspect of finances, or a healthier lifestyle. Another goal may be to become a more giving person.
Thankfully, there are opportunities all around us to demonstrate goodwill, and January is often an ideal time to get rid of the old and make room for the new. You could have a look around your house and inside your wardrobe to see which possessions you could do without; these items can then be bagged up and donated to a charitable organisation. You could also do the same for any unwanted Christmas presents you may have.
The great thing about being charitable is that no gesture is too small! On your commute to work, why not give up your seat on the train, or buy food for a homeless person? Your actions don’t have to cost a lot or even anything at all, but it’s likely that the recipient will appreciate your kind gesture nonetheless.
The team at WRS took part in quite a lot of fundraising activities last year, from cupcake sales to Text Santa’s Christmas Jumper Day. Participation in national fundraising days such as these not only gives you a warm sense of fulfilment, but it can also be a great way to involve others in your resolution whilst having fun too!
Volunteering is another satisfying activity for you to get involved in; you could even invite friends and family along to share the experience with. If volunteering is something you would like to learn more about, check out The Nation Council for Voluntary Organisations’s volunteering page.
If you are someone who often gets caught up in the busyness of life but would still like to have a positive impact on the world around you, you can take advantage of monthly donation schemes that allow you to make regular payments to your chosen Charity. If you are undecided as to which Charity to give to, it may be useful to have a look online at each Charities website to discover more about the work that they do, and what your money would go towards.
These are just some of the ways you can make 2016 a year of giving. If you have any ideas on what deliberate action to take to become more charitable, then we’d love to hear from you! Tweet us at @wrsinsurance_
