The nation is gearing up to celebrate the Feast of Saint Valentine, better known as Valentine’s Day.

Keeping in theme, we have put together a few suggestions of how you can spend the special day in a way that may differ slightly to what you have done in previous years.

A random act of kindness is a great way to extend your love to people around you. You could add a bit of sparkle to someone’s day by gracing them with a nice gesture or compliment. The recipient does not have to be a friend or family member, it could be anyone – that’s what makes it even more fun!

Sometimes the busyness of life can take over and we miss out on speaking to our loved ones as regularly as we would like to. During this season of love, why not reconnect with someone that you have not spoken to in a while; pay them a visit or give them a call. Although this may sound like a small deed, you would be surprised at how it could brighten up someone’s Valentine’s! This is most likely to be especially true for those of us who have elderly relatives.

This time of the year could also be the perfect opportunity to spend time with people who find it difficult to get into the Valentine’s day spirit; this may be because they are ill, or lonely. You can contact local charities and find out if they have any volunteering opportunities available. Such a thoughtful act of love goes a long way in touching the hearts of others.

Lastly, love yourself! As cheesy as that may sound, too often we do not give ourselves as much credit as we should! Valentine’s Day is the perfect time for self-appreciation, so don’t be afraid to show yourself some love.
