Ferriers Barn Shares the Impact of a £5,000 Movement for Good Grant from Benefact Group

At WRS Insurance Brokers, we know how important funding can be in helping charities continue their mission. Our Head of Business Development, Francesca Kirkham, visited Ferriers Barn in Bures, Suffolk, following their successful £5,000 Benefact Group Movement for Good, Health & Wellbeing Award in June 2026.

Ferriers Barn is a welcoming day centre supporting adults with disabilities, providing a safe, inclusive environment where members can build confidence, develop skills and enjoy meaningful social opportunities.

During the visit, Francesca met with Clare, Assistant Manager at Ferriers Barn, to learn more about the charity’s work and hear how the grant has already made a positive difference.

A Message from Ferriers Barn

Nikki Goodman, Manager at Ferriers Barn, said:

“The £5,000 grant from Benefact Group has made a real difference to Ferriers Barn. It has helped us cover some of the everyday costs that keep our charity running, including electricity, running our adapted minibus and providing one-to-one support for members with the highest needs.

These are the things that often go unnoticed but are essential to what we do. Our minibus means people who would otherwise struggle to leave home, can attend Ferriers Barn, while one-to-one support ensures everyone, regardless of their needs, can take part, feel included and have the best day possible.

What makes this grant even more valuable is that it was unrestricted. Funding for day-to-day running costs is becoming increasingly difficult to find, so having the flexibility to use the money where it is needed most has been a huge help. It has allowed us to focus on supporting our members, rather than worrying about how we will cover essential bills.

The funding has also given us the opportunity to create special moments for our members. During the recent hot weather, we arranged for an ice cream van to visit the Barn. It was a simple treat, but seeing everyone choose their own ice cream, sit together and enjoy the sunshine brought so much happiness and created memories that will last.

Your support hasn’t just helped pay the bills; it has helped us continue providing a place where adults with disabilities feel safe, valued and part of something. On behalf of all our members, staff and volunteers, thank you for making that possible.”

Nominate a Charity for a Movement for Good Award

Ferriers Barn’s story is a fantastic example of how funding can make a real difference to charities delivering essential services.

There are still opportunities for eligible charities to benefit from the Benefact Group’s Movement for Good Awards in 2026. Charities can be nominated for the remaining £1,000 draws, with nominations carrying forward to subsequent draws, giving organisations multiple chances to receive funding.

The next £5,000 Special Draw is also open for charities working in Animals & Wildlife, with 10 charities set to receive £5,000 each. Nominations are open from 5-18 October 2026.

The year will conclude with the 12 Days of Giving campaign, taking place between 1 and 16 December, during which 120 charities will each receive £1,000.

If you know a charity that deserves recognition and could benefit from extra funding, why not nominate them today?
